#inktober2023
Until today, I had no idea of why there are less people participating in this year’s Inktober other than prompts are bit too Western-centered to me. But as Alexis Espinoza points out in the Controversy with Inktober, it has sides that I would not have participated in it if I had known before October.
To me, it is not so much about brushing my skills, but I genuinely miss a few friends whom I used to draw with. I am so focused on my work-work to pay my bills, so Inktober and updating them on instagram gave me a cue. Most of the drawing was done on train. I have a 25 minutes to ride, then switch to another train to work on it for 20 minutes more. I am thankful for fellow riders who sometimes made nice comments on my drawings and didn’t elbow me on a packed commuter train. インクトーバーは、毎年10月にオンラインで行われるお祭りで、2009年にJake Parkerという人の発案で始まった。毎日一つのお題に合わせて絵を描くことで、描くことを習慣化して、絵も上手になってインスピレーションも受けて、SNSなどで披露しようよ、という趣旨である。Alex Espinozaという人がまとめているように、2020年の著作権化にともなって私物化が起きてしまい、参加者が減ったということを、私は知らなかった。なんとなく昔に比べて盛り上がってないよな、ぐらいにしか受け止めていなかったが、たぶん知っていたら参加しなかったのではないかと思う。
それでなくても、今までは（今も）お題が比較的西洋のファンタジーやヒーロー物に寄せてあるので、私はあまりおもしろいと思わず、参加しても数日で終わってしまっていた。
今年は仕事が忙しくて絵を描く時間があまり取れなかったり、一緒に絵を描いて遊んでいた人との交流の機会も減ってきたので、インスタを使って参加することにした。
ほとんどの絵は通勤時間の電車の中でかかれた。とりあえず色々思いを巡らせて下絵を描いて（最初からペンだけど）、インクで陰影をつけていくのを合わせると15分から50分ぐらいでできた。満員電車の中で手帳（永岡書店のBiz Grid手帳）に絵を描いている私を肘でどついたりせずに、たまにコメントをくれた他の乗客に感謝する。JPGにしておくので、ご自由にダウンロードしてください。
